Daddy Tries Out Pregnancy

So last night was our first childbirth class at the hospital. It was pretty neat, the best part was when the nurse asked for a volunteer to try to pretend to be pregnant and wear a 27 lb. back pack. I volunteered Derric very quickly. It was hilarious. She had him bend down and get on to the ground on his bottom, try to tie his shoe and all the other hilarious things that are very uncomfortbale for us women carry a baby! Below is a video of the nurse showing him what was in the 27 lbs: water retention, extra blood, a baby, etc.

Weekly Doctor Appointments!

Tomorrow is our first doctors appointment to see how big and strong

HANK VON HARUGHTY

is gettting. We are so excited. We have been waiting for this day for a while. We also are starting our weekly doctor appointments. We have a hospital appointment at 8:30 then we are off to go visit Dr. Johnson following that. We hope to get lots of great pictures to share. He is getting so big, I can feel him stretch and turn over from his belly to his back often. I can sometimes feel him stretch as far as under my hip bone, and that is not too pleasant. We are really looking forward to seeing and learning more about our lil' man tomorrow.

Take Me Out To The Ball Game!

Well, I don't talk to much about my amazing husband Derric on here so I guess I will do a little post in honor of him! Well, Derric loves to play mens sofball. He plays on our church team every Monday night. He really enjoys it, just to fellowship with other Christian Men and be a kid for a few hours and just run around and get a little excercise. Well, his youngest brother Matt (I told you in a previous post he plays for the White Sox farm team) is on off season and all of his friends are graduating college and are back home, so they have a bunch of old ball players in town so they decided to make a tournament team! So Derric and some of his buddies, and all the younger guys that Derric has known growing up through his brothers are all on one team! They call themselves "The Gringos" here is a picture of them from a Cancer Tournament the played a few weeks back for an 4 yr old girl. The name of the tournament was Cancer Sucks which I thought was horrible for a little girl... but Derric says "well Cancer does Suck"? I guess he has a point! The boys did a great job and had a blast they are looking forward to doing this about once a month! ( I know the picture is blurry I think it was taken on a camera phone and then emailed out).

They won first place at the Tournmaent at PJ's Softball Park!

Busy Lil' Mama

So I guess when I have more to do, I manage my time better.... Or I have ADD so bad when I have a lot to do I also do alot of other stuff at the same time. Well, my work load has been kind of crazy these past few days. I was suppossed to get a bid from a big school district in the area a few weeks back but they shipped it to my old office address that has closed down. So, I got a call Friday from their purchasing department just making sure I had gotten it... and this was obviously news to me. They only bid every 3 years so it's super important that we don't miss it. So needless to say, yesterday and today have been nose in the books, except for when I needed to take some breaks. I went to the grocery store at 7:30 and got stuff for Stew and a few other things, since I hadn't eaten breakfast I bought a little more than normal......

I threw the Roast in the crockpot along with Celery, Carrots, and Potatoes... it's been cooking all day and smells delicious. And of course you have to make cornbread to go along with it.

Then around noon I decided to make a fall dessert for our dinner so I made a pumpkin pie!

Then around 4 I read on someone's blog a recipe for Banana Bread and thought I could make that and have for breakfast tomorrow! So here's the recipe I stole.

Banana Bread

3/4 c. unsweet applesauce

1 c. sugar

2 eggs

1 3/4 c. flour

1 tsp. salt

3/4 tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. baking powder

1 tsp. cinnamon

1 c. mashed bananas (about 3)

Preheat oven to 350. Spray 9 x 5 loaf pan w/ cooking spray (or muffin pan). In one bowl combine applesauce, sugar, and eggs; beat until light and fluffy. In a separate bowl combine flour, salt, soda, powder, and cinnamon. Add to batter and blend well. Fold bananas into batter. Pour batter into pan(s).Bake for 60-65 minutes (if making bread) or 10-12 minutes if making muffins, or until toothpick comes clean.

Christmas Mania

So as crazy as this sounds...... I have to have Christmas ready soon. I am such a Christmas lover and I have this little unknown lifestyle change coming in 40ish days and then Christmas will be right around the corner. I have been so worried about the perfect stockings for our little family. Last year Derric and I got these same Pottery Barn Stockings in Green. Also, last year we had a Peacock colored Christmas Tree (Copper, Gold, Turquoise and Green). We said that when we started a family we would swtich to a traditional tree of Red and Green (a little gold too)! So I was so excited to find Pottery Barn had these come back in a new color of RED!!! This will be perfect for our mantel. We are going to get 3 just in case we need them all someday. Derric would love 3 I say let's chat after 2. I had the same stocking at my parents house since I was born and really wanted that tradition for our family too. So, thank goodness for PB!
We have almost all of our shopping done ( I started in June). When I say our.... we all know men don't shop. They get all the glory the day of..... but everyone knows that they really don't do much to prepare for Christmas. My love language is "gifts" so I am so big on making sure that this Christmas we still are able to give gifts to our friends and loved ones. I have an unpaid Maternity leave which is really going to hurt come Decemeber so I am trying to plan ahead. REAL AHEAD! The doctor already told us for up to six weeks she doesn't want the baby going out with the flu and all. So, my shopping is almost done! Even though it may be a little smaller than normal we will still plan to have a great Christmas. After all this is Jesus Birthday and we are going to celebrate. This year Derric and I will have the best gift of all.... the gift of life.

Fall is HERE!!!

This weekend I went for a last little hoorah with a few neighbors to Canton,TX to First Mondays Trade Show. It was so much fun. I got lots of gifts for Christmas (I know you are thinking I am making you sick by purchasing so early but I am having a baby in December and if I don't shop now you aren't getting a gift) and on that note, I am almost done, because I started in June. So eat your heart out! Haha, just kidding. I planned early also because I don't have a paid maternity leave, bummer huh?

Well, it was great and I got lots of great gifts and had a BALL just getting away for the weekend and coming back totally refreshed! So, after I got back yesterday our sweet friends The Hayter's joined us for Chili and Pumpkin Crunch Pie. The pie was a hit here is the recipe!!

Make Your Own Chalkboard Paint

Material:

3 teaspoons acrylic paint [colour of choice]
1 1/2 teaspoons glazing medium [water based]
1/2 teaspoon powder tile grout [Not Sanded]

How to:

The single most frequently asked question is where can I buy coloured chalk board paint? Unfortunately, this product
was discontinued a few years back and I have not been able to find another... so with a little effort, I managed to put
together a recipe that works! Now you can make your own chalk board paint in any colour you choose and don't have
to settle for the standard black and green.

Mix together all of the ingredients listed above, blend really well and that's it. You now have chalkboard paint! You
should only mix as much as you will need for your project. It doesn't keep well, but can be stored in an air tight
container for a few hours. After a longer period of time, the paint will begin to thicken a little and become a bit brittle.

Helpful Hints:
Apply your paint with a regular paint brush and allow each coat of paint to dry completely, before applying the next.
After each coat of paint, gently sand the paint with a 400 grit or higher grit sandpaper and wipe away any dust. This
will help keep your painted surface nice and smooth.

You also need to condition your chalkboard, once you have finished painting. Be sure your paint is completely dry.
Place a piece of chalk on the side and rub over the entire chalkboard surface, covering the entire area with chalk.
Using a felt cloth, wipe off the chalk you just applied. With a slightly damp cloth, wipe the chalkboard clean.

Now your chalkboard is ready!
